Positive Affirmations
Statements to boost your confidence and self-esteem
Speak positively about yourself to correct self-sabotaging thoughts
It’s not uncommon to sabotage yourself with unhelpful thoughts when you’re challenged. ‘I can’t do that…it’s too hard…everyone will laugh at me’. Those thoughts just set off a negative cycle, increase anxiety and lower your self-esteem. It’s difficult to perform at your best if your head is working against you. Positive affirmations – actively choosing positive statements to say about yourself – might feel a bit unnatural at first. But they can be a game-changer.
How to do it
It’s up to you how you do it. You can write your positive affirmations down in a notebook, stick them on the fridge, or say them out loud to the mirror in the morning. It’s important to make sure they start with ‘I’ or ‘My’. Keep them short and positive. Rather than saying ‘I’m not nervous’, say ‘I’m confident’. Try some of these:
- I’m strong
- I deserve good things
- I’ve overcome challenges before, and will again
- I am capable of great things
- I am confident
